Why surface washing never lasts
Washing a rug on a terrace with a hose and household detergent leaves two problems behind: soap residue, which pulls dust straight back in within weeks, and deep moisture, which turns into a musty smell. In Tangier's salty, humid coastal air, a thick wool rug can take a week to dry outdoors.
In the workshop, a centrifuge extracts most of the water in minutes and a ventilated drying room finishes the job. The rug comes back genuinely dry, with no odour and no stiffened fibres.
A different protocol for every fibre
- Wool and Berber: cold water and a pH-neutral detergent to avoid felting and shrinkage.
- Persian and silk: hand-washing only, with a colour-fastness test before any water.
- Synthetic and shaggy: lukewarm water and a degreaser with a rotary brush.
- Carpet and upholstery: cleaned on site by hot-water injection-extraction.
